Sara Hutson, PE
President/CFO

As a co-founder of Hutson & Associates in 2003 with her husband, Aaron Hutson, Sara Hutson works with the company’s key staff in business development and marketing, and oversees the human resources, finance, and general accounting for the organization. In addition to her comprehensive business background, Ms. Hutson has over 8 years of experience in the field of civil engineering, specializing in transportation design and traffic. Her attention to detail and business background has allowed Ms. Hutson to develop an expertise in permitting and permit review, and provides oversight in this capacity for a number of clients.

Ms. Hutson’s technical experience also includes the preparation of plans and profiles for street and utility improvements, intersection and highway design, land surveying including the preparation of legal descriptions and plats, and traffic studies including counting and analysis.

Aaron Hutson, PLS
Vice President/CEO

Aaron Hutson cofounded Hutson & Associates with his wife, Sara Hutson, in 2003. In his role as VP and CEO of the company, Mr. Hutson develops the long-range goals and business plans of the company and works with key staff to ensure that excellence is maintained throughout all disciplines. Mr. Hutson leads the company by example through his intentional application of the company’s core values and mission statement in every aspect of the business.

His 20 years of management and field work in the surveying profession have provided Mr. Hutson with a comprehensive understanding and unparalleled experience in the field of land surveying: including document research; review and editing of boundary plats; ALTA/ACSM, topographic, flood plain and boundary surveys; and construction staking and administration. Mr. Hutson has also served as a project manager for the Illinois Department of Transportation reviewing and managing survey projects in the land acquisition department of District 8 in Collinsville.

Mr. Hutson’s surveying expertise and ability to successfully communicate technical subjects allowed him to serve for 3 years as an instructor of ‘Plane and Route Surveying’ at Florissant Valley Community College. Through this opportunity, Mr. Hutson was able to share his vast knowledge and experience with students to help develop the next generation of leaders in the land surveying profession.

Jason Kraner, PLS
Project Manager

Jason Kraner joined the Hutson & Associates team in 2007 and has served as the project manager for the company’s Conoco Phillips Refinery Wood River, IL project. Mr. Kraner oversees the scheduling, construction staking, drafting and quality control for this large project, as well as the coordination of the survey department for all other projects at Hutson.

Through his more than seven years in surveying, Mr. Kraner has gained comprehensive experience in boundary, control, topographic and as-built surveys. He also has extensive background in the drafting of topographic maps, subdivision plats, boundary adjustment plans, boundary surveys and easement exhibits.

Richard Barnett
Engineering Technician / IT Specialist

Richard Barnett joined the Hutson & Associates team officially in 2008, but has been with Hutson from the beginning serving as our IT Specialist and helping on projects. Mr. Barnett now serves as the primary Drafter, Machine Control Developer, IT Specialist, and also works with the IDOT DBE firms in Website development.

Through his more than twenty years in drafting and IT, Mr. Barnett has gained comprehensive experience in Civil, Survey, and Structural drawings, and is highly capable in multiple CADD and Engineering Platforms used in the industry. Mr. Barnett is the former President of TMC of St. Louis, a MicroStation User's Group sponsored by Bentley, and has extensive experience training drafters. Mr. Barnett’s drafting expertise and ability to successfully communicate technical subjects allowed him to serve for 2 semesters as an instructor of ‘Civil Aspects for MicroStation’ at Florissant Valley Community College.

Due to his number of years serving in different capacities within both private and government agencies, Mr. Barnett has developed a keen eye for details and strives for perfection in all areas of the company.
